Donkey Kong Country Dated

News gushing through the electronic pipelines is that Nintendo have officially dated Donkey Kong Country Returns for Europe. The game will hit store shelves on Friday the 3rd of Decemeber and is, of course, exclusively available for Wii.

It’s been a long time coming, this latest title in the Donkey Kong series, but Nintendo are hoping to compensate fans for that wait by adding a new cooperative 2 player mode to the classic side-scrolling game-play. Diddy Kong will be able to hold on to Donkey Kong and be carried through parts of the levels or both players can take entirely different routes. There will also be the usual barrel cannons and mine cart sections, which fans will remember so fondly from previous games, as you track down your stolen bananas.

Some interesting additions to the gameplay are being touted. Features like motion sensing controls to make Donkey Kong thump the ground or roll on enemies and Diddy Kong’s Peanut Popgun in two player mode should add enough variety, on top of the improved visuals, to keep things feeling fresh.

Donkey Kong Country has always been a title that many Nintendo fans hold close to their hearts so we’re watching this one with a keen eye. Please get it right, Nintendo. Please.

  1. The SNES version was incredible and looked a whole generation better than anything on the console at the time.
I played it to death and got the 101%

    • The SNES version was defintely a peak and showed off the SNES’ capabilities…

An awesome game – bet Wii Owners and DK Fans are super chuffed. Must admit I never revisited the game after the SNES though..

  2. This is one of the reasons I want a Wii.
The PS3 gets lots of awesome games, but no bananas… :(

    • Ape Escape!!

    • I would also love a Wii for the Mario platform games and the other odd title that appears every now and again like this. Only thing is I can’t justify a new console for a handful of games.

      • There is quite a lot now: two Mario Galaxy games, New Super Mario, Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros, Zelda, Metroid…
That, with the lower price they’re selling for now and the schedule over the coming months (Kirby, Donkey Kong, new Zelda, Epic Mickey etc.) means this is probably a good time to seriously consider it.

  3. Great date I”ll be able to buy it!!

    • fantastic to see Nintendo getting in to the Xmas run-in in a serious way too. The last few years have felt like they relied on their solid performers from earlier in the year.

  4. Can’t wait for this one! I disagree with the ‘fantastic to see Nintendo getting in to the Xmas run-in in a serious way too’…no offence but we only have this on the Wii and Golden Sun on the DS. Obviously Wii Party too…but some might not actually call that a game. I think they could have done much better personally.

  5. Loved the SNES original so will be getting this

  6. Thank god it’s out 2010 in Europe…thought we were gonna get screwed over again!
